Why did we as Americans fight the Revolutionary War?

Was it to rid ourselves of one form of tyranny to yet install another ? This Federal Government is by far way more Tyrannical and Cynical a beast than King George could of ever hoped for , yet we seem happy and complacent about it . Why is that ?
