Updating my back patio, will this work? Which option do you suggest?

I like the treated lumber idea at the perimeter of the patio. Attaching to the patio will eventually loosen; the wood perimeter will look good and the pavers are easier to remove if need be. Treated wood will deteriorate over time as it's pretty hard to find "ground contact" treated anymore, but it will take years. You could also use cedar.
